April Work of Piety
Reading and Reflecting on Jesus’ Resurrection Appearances
During worship in April, we will be looking at some of the stories of Jesus’ resurrection appearances to his followers found in Gospel of John. We encourage you to spend time reading and reflecting upon these stories throughout the month.
|John 20: 1-18||The empty tomb is discovered on Easter morning, and then Jesus appears to Mary|
|John 20:19-29||Jesus appears to his disciples in a locked room, and then later Jesus appears to Thomas|
|John 21:1-14||Jesus appears to seven of the disciples by the sea|
|John 21:15-19||Jesus has a conversation with Peter|
|John 21:20-25||Jesus has a conversation with John|
As you read these stories, ponder them and take them to heart. How might God be speaking to you through these words of scripture? Imagine that you are Mary in the story, or Thomas, or Peter, or John. What would you say to Jesus? What would he say to you? What does it mean to you to live with the assurance that “He is risen!”
Further Reflections on Jesus’ Resurrection Appearances
For our April Work of Piety we are encouraged to read the appearance stories of Jesus found in the Gospel of John. On Thursday evening, April 25, Pastor Marty will lead us in a study of these appearances stories and in a conversation about their significance for our understanding of the good news that “Christ is risen!” We will meet in the church library at 7:00.
